The word “blog” can be intimidating to people who aren’t professional writers, but it doesn’t have to be. 😉 I’ve heard blogging referred to as a mixture of art and science. If this is true, then there is no “right way” to approach blogging if you want to be successful. There are plenty of bloggers who have done a great job.

Lately I have been receiving emails asking for blog tips. I will definitely say that I am no expert when it comes to blogging, and I still don’t understand everything. But luckily for me, I blog for myself and I enjoy learning new things that will help me blog better.

Blogging doesn’t have to be hard or scary. It will become what you want it to be. It can lead to many positive habits like being committed, having discipline, improving time management skills and more. But I do believe that you need a good foundation to build off of for your blog to be successful. This is what I have learnt when I started my blog, and I hope that it will help you when you are starting yours!

If you are interested in starting a blog, I created an easy-to-use tutorial that will help you start a blog of your own for cheap, starting at only $3.95 per month (this low price is through my link only) for blog hosting. You will also receive a free blog domain (a $15 value) through my Bluehost link if you purchase at least 12 months of blog hosting. That is an amazing deal and is great if you want to start your own blog! Also, you want/need to be self-hosted if your website is used for freelancing purposes or if you want to make money blogging.

Let’s dive in! Here are my top tips when it comes to blogging!

Be Yourself

Just like getting to anything good in life, you have to be yourself! Don’t pretend to be someone else. You can only be you. I love reading real blogs when I can tell who the reader is just by reading what they have written. Readers will notice when you are not being authentic. Like I have said in my other blog posts, your voice is yours and there is nobody like you. What you have to say is original and that is your superpower. Be true to yourself and people will pick up on your energy.

Write for yourself first

Write for yourself first and foremost. In the beginning, ignore the fact that anyone else will read what you write, so just focus on your thoughts, ideas and opinions and figure out how to put those into words. When you write for yourself, you will find your own voice, and you need that to become a successful blogger. Write about things you enjoy in life and you will notice that you will have so much to say!

Have an About page

As your blog grows, your About page will grow with you. This is something that I am always adding to and always improving. I personally love reading blogs that have interesting and fun personal views! I really like reading about the author and seeing where he or she is coming from. This page is for sharing more about yourself and you as an individual. You can include pictures, a bio about yourself, and possibly links to other posts that will describe you and your life even further.

Be consistent

Consistency is essential when it comes to blogging. It is one of the most important things that bloggers tend to forget. Not only for being a reliable site but also to keep growing your blog. Also, it’s much easier to lose your traffic than it is to build it up, so make sure you consistently blog.

Reply to comments

Always put in the effort to reply to your readers’ comments. I feel really good when I know that an author has actually read and replied to a comment I left on their post. It will also show readers that you actually care about them to reply to their comments. Interacting with readers is always important. They are your readers, so take care of them!

Share your knowledge

I truly believe that everyone has something to offer to others that will help improve their lives in some way. Don’t be afraid to showcase what you know. You always what to be learning as well as teaching. Everyone has different experiences in life, so sharing that will help others have new perspectives on whatever it may be! It’s nice to be in a serving mindset. It’s extremely rewarding to know that you’ve made someone’s day or taught something to someone just by sharing what you have learned in your own life.

Make it easy to Subscribe

If you like something, then you probably want more of it right? Yes! I feel the same way too. I cannot tell you how many times I have gone to a website and it was basically impossible for me to subscribe to their content. No links for e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, or anything! People want to follow inspirational people, so make it easy to find you.

Write catchy headlines

No matter how great your content is, if you don’t have an amazing headline, it won’t matter. Remember, you only have a split second to get people to click on your post, and your headline will make them decide. The headline is also important in making it easy and desirable for people to share your post. This goes back to the serving mindset. For example, I am more likely to click on a post that says, “3 Ways To Bounce Back From an Awful Day”, rather than, “My Awful Day”.  See the difference? Keep your headlines simple, powerful, useful and bold.

Make Blogging Friends

One of the best things about blogging is that it brings a great community along with it. Too many bloggers see other bloggers as competition. NO NO NO, change that mindset, that just isn’t true! Like I said before, everyone has a different voice, everyone writes different and has different experiences. Whether you are trying to make money from your blog, or you’re trying to establish yourself as an authority site, or whatever the case may be, blogging friends will only help you get to your goals faster. I have made many friends through my blog and I have learnt a lot from them as well. Reach out by commenting on blogs you enjoy, interacting on Facebook, emailing, and so on. And of course be open and be yourself.

Have fun!

Different people start a blog for different reasons. But that is the beauty of blogging. Whatever the case may be, have fun with it! The best blogs are written by people who genuinely enjoy what they are doing! So stay true to yourself, helps others out and love what your doing!

Your Turn!

What blogging tips do you have for beginners?

If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you start a blog of your own for cheap, starting at only $3.95 per month (this low price is only through my link and for a limited time) for blog hosting. In addition to the low pricing, you will receive a free blog domain (a $15 value) through my Bluehost link if you purchase at least 12 months of blog hosting.
