Camping is not for everyone… so they say. There are so many ways a person can camp. It doesn’t necessarily have to be in a tent.
You can camp in an RV and it’s also not as tough as many people think. You probably are not going to get eaten by a bear or a cougar or start a forest fire.
I love camping and it’s something I do every chance I get. I find that it’s a great way to spend time with yourself and people you loving spending time with.
Here are just a few of the many reasons why camping is amazing.
It’s time to face your fears and get outside! As an avid camper, here are some of my own tips and tricks to make sure your first time camping isn’t your last.
1. You Are Unplugged
The internet is a wonderful place and nowadays, it’s a hard thing to live without.
Sometimes however, it’s unbelievably amazing to turn off your phone and just live in the moment.
It’s a great feeling to know that everything you really need is already in front of you.
The internet is great, but at the same time, it’s such a time waster. When you don’t have to worry if someone texted you or who liked your picture on Facebook, only then you are truly free to enjoy the people around you and the experience you are living.
The great thing about camping is that there is no internet in the wilderness, so even if you wanted to scroll on Instagram all day, you can’t….hahaha suckers!
2. Campfires
I gotta say, one of the best perks of camping is a raging fire.
Campfires are awesome and the sound of the crackling wood is so relaxing.
They smell amazing and always keep bugs away.
Here’s a tip, throw a bundle of sage in the campfire, mosquitoes hate it and they won’t bother you or your food! 🙂
3. Peeing Anywhere!
In nature, you can pee anywhere you want. It’s a lot of fun but does require some practice if you’re a woman.
It’s a great advantage when you are drinking, which by the way, is also great when your camping.
Here’s a tip, camping is prime time to get a urinary tract infection so ladies, make sure you bring baby wipes or something of that liking to keep you clean and happy.
Another thing, don’t be mean and piss on a pretty flower or something, go do it in the corner on some dead grass. It’s fun to pee wherever you want but nobody wants to see you doing it!
4. The Stars
This is truly a magical experience that everyone needs to have.
If you live in the city, the only stars you pretty much see are the ones of the best hotel ratings.
When you are camping, the stars are so bright, they will put your city lights to shame!
The sky is full of them and when you look up, it’s like you’re entering a whole new galaxy. I love finding a dock or a beach when I’m camping and laying down on a blanket with a drink to watch the stars. Ahhhhhh so relaxing! 🙂
5. Everything Tastes Better Over The Fire
It doesn’t matter what you cook, but for some reason, everything tastes better over a campfire.
It’s super fun to cook over a campfire and it will save you more fuel for your campfire stove. That means you don’t have to bring as much fuel with you!
However, keep in mind that you will need to bring a campfire stove with you.
Don’t just rely on a campfire for cooking or backpack meals. What if it rains? It’s always a good idea to have backups.
You can get one for a good price. You don’t need anything fancy, just one that will do a good job and last for a long time.
We also love grilling over the campfire. I like to bring my own grill because I know what’s been cooked on it. I usually just bring the grill I use on my barbecue.
Here’s a tip: For when you are cooking over a campfire, coat the outside bottom part of your pots with a thin layer of dish soap. It will help clean the black film that is created when cooking over the fire.
This trick works! I use it every time I go camping!
6. It’s A Cheap Getaway
Vacations don’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Camping is such a fun and simple way to vacation.
It’s obviously much cheaper than booking an all-inclusive to Jamaica. Even just for the weekend, vacations are expensive.
Eating, drinking, activities, accommodations, and so on, it can all add up pretty quickly.
Camping out, even just for a couple of nights can cost as little as $15 a night! Food can be brought from home, or bought at a nearby grocery store, or even caught on the lake.
There is always something to do when your camping, so you will always be entertained. Grab some beer and wine, and voil’a! You are set for the weekend!
7. Quiet Time
It is super important to have time to yourself every day, and the best place to do that is in nature.
There are so many benefits to spending some alone time with yourself and it’s really good for your mental health and well-being.
You have more appreciation for life and everything that is going for you.
It’s your special time to review the things you’ve learned in life with yourself and to just shut off your mind.
It’s also super relaxing, to just sit and stare blankly into nature.
This is your time to sit quietly, meditate, relax, listen to the sounds of nature, and to just breathe. 🙂
8. More Exercise
When you are camping, you are actually getting more exercise.
This is great because it doesn’t even feel like your exercising.
There are so many ways you can stay active all day long.
Backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, hiking, exploring, climbing a mountain, playing games and more!
There are so many different ways to stay active when your camping. I LOVE kayaking. It gives me an amazing arm workout and when I’m on the water, I get distracted by all the beauty around me that I forget I’m actually working out! 🙂
9. Family Time
Camping is a great way to spend more quality time with friends and family.
There are so many fun things you can do and so many new skill sets you can teach your kids.
Like how to pitch a tent, how to chop wood, how to start a fire, and more!
There are lots of great things you can learn from your little ones too!
Like how to skip a rock (my little cousin actually taught me how to skip a rock across the water properly!), or create new games to play.
It’s a great way to spend quality time together as a family and everyone it will become a memory they will have forever.
10. Reconnect With Nature
Nature is full of beauty, and city folk rarely get the chance to appreciate it.
There are countless gorgeous mountains to hike and climb, beautiful freshwater lakes that are ideal for swimming, kayaking, fishing canoeing and more!
Being outside isn’t just about being in a new environment, it’s about improving your relationship with nature and respecting the world around you. And it will also help you have a newfound appreciation for nature.
11. Camping Makes You Happier
Of course, camping makes you happier!
It’s not just about tents and cooking over a fire, camping has some serious science behind it.
Making lifelong memories, getting away from hectic city life, the sunlight, fresh air, eating well, connection to nature, sleeping in, the certain “zen” feeling you get, the beer, and more!
There are so many reasons why camping makes you happier and that’s why you should go camping any chance you get!
Happy Trails! 🙂
