There are many great ways to make an income online, but my absolute favourite is affiliate marketing.
Before I knew anything about blogging, just the word affiliate marketing would scare me. I didn’t understand how it worked and I always thought it would be so hard to implement it and make money using affiliate marketing.

Before blogging, I didn’t even know what affiliate marketing was. But that was before I took this course, Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.
After taking that course, I now know A LOT about affiliate marketing. Enough to start earning income online soon after I took the course.
Having this kind of passive income source is great because it allows me to keep earning blogging income comfortably.
Earning an income online is great because it allows you to focus on other things in your life like your health, maintaining relationships, personal growth and more. It also helps you get better at managing your work-life balance.
Earning an affiliate income online allows me to live a more comfortable life. It allows me to explore more, travel more and spend more time with friends and family, all while earning a good income from my blog.
To help you start earning money from your blog, I am going to tell you what affiliate marketing is and why you will love it as much as I do!
First, let’s backtrack a bit…
A few years ago, I didn’t even know that you could make money online. I thought the only way to make more money is getting a raise at your current job or getting another job on top of the one you already have.
Once I discovered that people were actually making 6, 7, and even 8 figures online, by starting their own blogs and online businesses, (and being their own bosses), I was soooo interested!
I knew there had to be a better way to earn a living instead of doing the 9 to 5 grind. I was so miserable with my job that I knew there was more to life than going to a job I hated.
I wasn’t ok with the whole idea of going to school and then getting a job, (or not finding a job in the field you went to school for), then working for someone else who gets to decide when you get to have your lunch, when you get to use your phone or when you can go on vacation.
So I decided to give blogging a try, and I’m so glad I did! Before that, I didn’t even know what blogs were, how to start a blog, or making money from one. I had no idea that learning affiliate marketing would change my life.
Learning how to create a blog completely changed my life for the better, and it’s something I recommend everyone try if they are thinking about it.
You just never know where it might take you! 🙂
What is affiliate marketing?
If you’re not familiar with affiliate marketing, then you’re probably wondering what affiliate marketing for bloggers really is.
Affiliate marketing is when you promote a service, company or product in exchange for income, offers and more.
Affiliate income is when you place an affiliate link in a blog post, social media account, website, and so on, and try to earn money from people buying the product through your link.
An affiliate link is a link specially designed for you, when you sign up for affiliate networks or programs. These links tell companies and networks that a customer came from your site.
An affiliate is a person or business who promotes a product or service offered by other businesses.
There are different types of affiliates (YouTubers, Instagrammers, online influencers, and so on), but what I’m talking about today specifically is affiliate marketing for bloggers.
What’s great about affiliate marketing for bloggers is that there are many different ways to share affiliate links with your audience, such as:
- By adding an affiliate link to you blog, email, Instagram post.
- Promoting it on social media
- Sharing it in a podcast or webinar
- Sharing it in an interview and more
Note: I recommend checking out this online course for bloggers. Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing. The strategies in this course will help you make your first affiliate income. If you’re a blogger, then you NEED this course. This course covers affiliate marketing for beginners to those who are more advanced.
You’ll learn so much important information in this course, from how to get your blog ready for affiliate marketing, the best affiliate programs for bloggers, how to apply to them and plus a lot more.
So how did I get started with affiliate marketing?
When I first started affiliate marketing, I had no idea what I was doing.
I had no idea what affiliate marketing was when I started my blog. I always thought that you needed a huge following and a ton of page views in order to be successful with affiliate marketing.
I quickly learned that wasn’t true! After doing hours of research and taking this course, (Which in my opinion is the only course you need. You don’t need to go off buying tons and tons of courses, trust me, it’s easy to fall into that), I started implementing the strategies I learned.
I started making a little bit of money each month, which then just continued to grow month after month. I now know that you don’t need lots of page views or a huge following in order to make a great income through affiliate marketing.
What you do need is to enjoy and believe the products you are promoting. I find that this is the best way to earn money through affiliate marketing. If the products you believe would help people in their daily lives, then promoting those products to your audience is a no-brainer.
You can get paid to tell people about a product that you love!
If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you start a blog of your own for cheap, starting at only $3.95 per month (this low price is only through my link and for a limited time) for blog hosting. In addition to the low pricing, you will receive a free blog domain (a $15 value) through my Bluehost link if you purchase at least 12 months of blog hosting. I also have a free blogging course you can join too that will help you start and launch a successful blog!
Here are 7 reasons why I love affiliate marketing.
1. Affiliate marketing is somewhat passive income.
Affiliate income is great because you can create a lot of things such as a post, webinar, podcast, review, video, etc., and can earn money from them years later with minimal work needed to maintain it.
Having said that, affiliate income is not entirely passive.
You will have to work hard and lots to build a following, consistently publish content, build an audience, build trust and more. Those things will take you time, but once you do the work, it’s possible to continue earning income from just one blog post or affiliate link.
2. It’s less work than creating your own product.
Affiliate marketing is a great way to earn income without doing a lot of work creating your own product.
There are a lot of things that you don’t have to worry about when comparing affiliate marketing to other types of blogging income such as, podcasts, creating and selling your own products, webinars and so on.
Many bloggers overlook affiliate marketing. They either think it’s too hard, it’s a waste of time, they will turn followers away, or that their followers or audience won’t be interested.
However, with affiliate marketing, you don’t have to create the product, handle cancellations, manage customer service, shipping and handling, and so on.
Yes, you will have to build your following and earn your readers’ trust and more, but it can be a great way to increase your income. It’s not as hard as you may think. Plus if you have the right tools and courses, you can start making a really good income really fast.
3. Blogging is a ton of fun.
I had no idea how fun blogging was before I started. I didn’t even know what blogs were back then. Now that I’ve been blogging for a few years, I can’t imagine my life without it!
I enjoy helping others with their financial situations, reading blog posts, finding new companies, meeting new people, making new blogging friends and more!
I love blogging so much. You should definitely give it a try if you are thinking about starting a blog. Blogging is both challenging and rewarding. There is always something cool and new to learn. You also can reach and help millions of people through your blog!
4. Affiliate marketing is affordable to start for bloggers.
Affiliate marketing doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. In fact, it’s very easy and quite affordable to get started. Which is another reason why it’s a great way to grow your blogging income.
I started with affiliate marketing for relatively cheap. You can spend as much or as little as you want.
You don’t even need a website. You can start promoting affiliate products through social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and so on. If you do decide to start a website, that can be done simply and affordably as well!
Blogging is a very affordable side hustle, hobby or business to start after all. Plus, you never know what it might turn into!
So this means that you could start your blog for less than $50 a year. That’s insanely cheap. I started my blog for really cheap. I didn’t pay that much for blog hosting.
I also designed my blog myself. I had no experience with ever doing something like that, but I made it happen. I pretty much did everything on my blog so that I could save money and invest more into my blog. It was an awesome learning experience!
5. Bloggers have so many affiliate programs to choose from.
It’s important to promote affiliate products that you love and believe in, and that are relevant to your website or niche. I only promote products that I love and truly believe in, because I know those products will help my readers just like they helped me.
Some bloggers may worry that it would be difficult to find affiliate programs to fit their site, however, there are so many different products, companies and services to promote. There is something for everyone!
Here are different types of products you can promote to your readers:
- Digital products such as online courses, ebooks, webinars, etc.
- Travel booking websites.
- One of the millions of items on Amazon.
- Apps for your phone.
- Blog-related products such as courses, website hosting, website design and much more.
- Clothing and jewelry.
- Home decor.
- Beer 😉
- Outdoor gear like backpacks, hiking shoes, bicycles and more.
It’s important to remember that affiliate marketing is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Just because there are so many different types of affiliate programs to choose from, and it’s easy to make money through affiliate marketing, you still have to put in the work my friend!
Like I said earlier, you will have to build a loyal following and you will have to build trust between you and your audience. That’s not always easy to do. However, it’s not impossible either!
Work hard and you may be able to earn a great living promoting products that you already believe in and enjoy!
6. You don’t need previous experience to be successful.
You really don’t need any previous experience in order to become a successful blogger.
I am proof of that because when I started Fire and A Beer, I honestly didn’t even know that blogs existed, let alone that you could make money from them. I learned how to create a blog from scratch and have worked my way up to where I am today. It’s an amazing feeling to look back and see where I started to where I am now. And I want to help others do the same!
With blogging, you’ll have a lot to learn but you’ll also have a lot to gain, like the life you’ve always wanted. Blogging can give you so many things if you work hard, such as, a 6 figure plus income, quitting your job, being your own boss, spending more time on yourself, friends, family and so on.
For me, blogging definitely is the gateway to achieving all those things and more!
7. You can be your own boss.
With blogging, you can be your own boss! It’s short and simple.
This is a huge positive of blogging. You can decide what your schedule is, what your business goals are, what kind of business you want to run and so on.
Not having someone look over your shoulder or telling you when you can go for lunch is a great feeling!
Blogging does take a lot of work, however, it comes with an abundance of freedom as well, and freedom is always worth it!
