When I was a kid, I used to wake up at 4am everyday and mediate before I started my day…(Yes I know, I was a weird kid). 😛 Tell me to do that now, and I will laugh at you, roll over and go to back to bed! But, I am working my way back to that!
There are so many great reasons why you should wake up earlier. It will benefit you tremendously and will become a big part of your life.
I will warn you though, getting into any good habit is hard, but it’s not impossible.
I have been waking up at 5am every morning for a month now and I can tell you that it hasn’t been easy! But as you adopt this habit, it starts to get easier.
I am going to share some of my tips and tricks that help me wake up earlier and stay up. So for all of you that want to wake up earlier and want to know why, here are 4 reasons why you should!
You’ve often heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day right? It’s also the most skipped meal of the day. This is probably because you’ve slept passed breakfast time, (I know it was for me). Or maybe you don’t eat breakfast because you don’t have time for it and you’re running late.
Breakfast is important because it helps lower cholesterol levels, gives you more strength during the day improves concentration and more.
Here’s a tip: Prepare a delicious breakfast the night before. Have a meal plan, and have everything you are going to cook with laid out. Some things you will need to cook fresh, like eggs and toast, but having all these food items ready for you in the morning will make it a lot easier for you. I usually have a tray that has everything I’m going to cook in the morning on it. And some things I make the night before like a fruit salad.
Working out in the morning is one of the best things you can do to get your day going. It’s really good for your body and it sets the tone for the rest of the day.
Not only does it give you an energy boost, but it also helps you sleep better. Exercise is the first thing I do when I wake up.
I find that it helps me feel less groggy, and now I actually enjoy working out first thing in the morning! Make it a part of your morning routine and soon you will feel more energized and awake. Trust me, you will thank yourself later!
Here’s a tip: I know it’s not easy to wake up early in the morning, let alone workout! This might sound crazy but it’s something I have done to help me get out of bed. When the alarm goes off, I immediately get out of bed, (not giving myself time to think about going back to bed) and head over to the bathroom. I then literally stick my face in ice cold water! I can tell you this much… it does the job! haha! After that I am wide awake and start to workout.
Another thing you can try is to play loud music as soon as you wake up. I turn on my workout music and it motivates me to be in workout mode.
This is one of my favourites. When you wake up earlier, you have more time for relaxation. This may only come though when you have had enough practice waking up early everyday at a set time.
This time in the morning is very important because it is the only time you get your own undivided attention 🙂 At this time you may want to take a walk in nature, watch the sunrise, meditate, read a book, or just have some calming alone time with yourself.
Once you are used to waking up early, then you will find how special this time of day really is. But you need to master waking up early first, if not, you might fall asleep during your relaxation time!
Waking up early, plus doing all the things mentioned above, will result in more productivity throughout the day. By lunchtime you’ve conquered so much that you will feel like you have so much free time now.
The morning is when your brain is most alert and focused, so get your most important tasks done right away. I usually work on my blog in the mornings. Writing articles and everything that I have to do that day is done during this time for me.
Here’s a tip: Stop hitting the snooze button. It’s time for change, but with baby steps 🙂 Don’t worry, you can still catch the snooze button on the weekend but eventually you’ll stop needing an alarm clock altogether. Hit the snooze once, instead of three times. Start with waking up 20 minutes earlier to make breakfast, and eventually add in the exercise. Mornings can be peaceful and a time to reflect, so don’t take them for granted.
